Karachi Traffic Police has finalised a special traffic plan for the main Chehlum procession of Hazrat Imam Hussain, which will start from Nishter Park today and conclude at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar.
According to a traffic police spokesperson, MA Jinnah Road from Gurumandir to Tower will remain closed for all traffic due to security reasons.
The traffic police have arranged alternate routes for motorists across the city. In District Central, traffic coming from Nazimabad will move from Lasbela Chowk to Nishtar Road and Garden to reach its destination.
Traffic from Liaquatabad will be diverted from Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk and then towards Central Jail via Martin Road.
In District East, traffic moving from Hassan Square to Peoples Chowrangi will use Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal and Jail Flyover to reach Teen Hatti and Nishtar Road.
Traffic from Shahrah-e-Faisal to Numaish via Shahrah-e-Quaidin will be diverted from the light signal towards Kashmir Road.
In District South, traffic coming from Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road will be routed through Anklesaria, Gul Plaza and Coast Guard to Holy Family Hospital.
The police have also issued alternate routes for heavy and commercial vehicles. Drivers coming from Super Highway and Gulberg towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No 10 to Nazimabad No 2 Chowrangi and then allowed to proceed via SITE, Habib Bank Flyover, Estate Avenue Road, Shershah and Mauripur.
Heavy traffic entering the city from National Highway will be allowed via Shahrah-e-Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No 10, Nazimabad No 2 Chowrangi, SITE, Habib Bank Flyover, Estate Avenue Road and Shershah to Mauripur, and return via the same route.
The spokesperson said no small or large vehicle will be allowed on the procession route beyond Gurumandir Chowk. Traffic will be diverted to Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar, while entry of vehicles on MA Jinnah Road will remain prohibited.
Only vehicles carrying procession stickers on their windscreens will be allowed to join the route through Shahrah-e-Quaidin and Society Light Signal.
Separate routes have also been designated for procession participants from different parts of the city, including Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Society Light Signal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi and Kashmir Road.
The traffic police said no vehicle will be allowed to park on the procession route during the event.
