Journalist Ansar Abbasi has sparked debate on social media after urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take notice of men and women exercising together in gyms across Islamabad.
In a post on X, Abbasi said mixed workouts by men and women in Islamabad gyms were creating “moral and social issues.” He asked the authorities to immediately set separate timings for women and men and ensure strict implementation.
The post drew criticism from several social media users, who questioned his position and argued that gym access should remain a personal choice.
After facing backlash, Abbasi defended his remarks in another post. He said he had only called for separate gym timings for men and women in line with Islamic teachings.
He added that he was not bothered by those mocking or criticizing him. Abbasi said establishing an Islamic society in Pakistan was a responsibility for everyone and claimed that the Constitution also supported this idea.
