Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the relevant authorities to make Islamabad’s Rescue 1122 service fully operational and integrate all major emergency services under one system.
The directive was issued during a meeting attended by the chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), where ongoing development projects in the federal capital were reviewed.
Naqvi expressed dissatisfaction over delays in establishing a fully integrated emergency response system. He instructed the CDA to complete all legal formalities and immediately begin work on four new emergency service centers.
Under the proposed Capital Emergency Services system, ambulance, fire brigade, and water rescue services will operate through Rescue 1122. Residents will be able to seek emergency assistance through a single helpline.
A unified control room will also be established within the civic agency to monitor emergency vehicles in real time through GPS.
Naqvi had first ordered the integration of these services during a meeting in May 2024.
The meeting also approved plans for two new underpasses in Islamabad. One will be constructed at Kashmir Chowk and the other near Faisal Mosque to improve traffic flow. Work on both projects is expected to begin next month.
Proposals to increase CDA’s revenue were also discussed. Naqvi directed the authority to develop a long-term revenue model to achieve financial self-sufficiency, stressing that institutional financial stability is necessary for sustained development.
He also instructed the CDA to complete the Expressway Service Road Project within the stipulated timeframe.
CDA officials briefed the meeting on the progress of various development projects underway in the capital.
