A court in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for the operators of 16 housing societies over non-payment of dues worth Rs. 1.8 billion to the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Senior Special Magistrate Sardar Mohammad Asif directed the concerned Station House Officers (SHOs) to arrest the operators and present them before the court on May 14.

According to sources, the CDA Housing Directorate had referred the matter to the court after the housing societies allegedly failed to clear outstanding charges, including extension and commercialization fees.

The societies named in the case include Account Group Officers Housing Scheme, Al Hamra Avenue Housing Scheme, Bahria Town, Bahria Paradise Commercial Scheme, Capital Enclave Housing Scheme, Gulberg Residencia Housing Scheme, Jeddah Town, Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) Housing Scheme, River Garden, Senate Avenue, Soan Garden, Margalla View, Ministry of Interior Housing Scheme, Multi Garden-I, and Roshan Pakistan Corporation Housing Scheme.

A court official told Dawn that the court had completed all legal formalities and provided sufficient time to the societies before issuing arrest warrants.

Responding to a question regarding Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz, the official said the warrants were likely issued for individuals handling financial matters of the housing societies, such as finance managers.

The official added that the CDA’s primary objective was the recovery of pending payments and further action could be avoided if the dues were cleared.

The development comes amid a wider crackdown on illegal and defaulting housing societies in Islamabad. Recently, the CDA also issued a public notice identifying 99 illegal housing societies operating in the capital and advised citizens against investing in them.
