Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has sharply criticized US President Donald Trump for trying to deprive Iran of its legitimate nuclear rights, according to Iranian state media and international reports.

Pezeshkian questioned Trump’s authority to restrict Iran’s nuclear activities, asking what “crime” Iran had committed to justify such demands.

The Iranian president stressed that no country can unilaterally deny another nation access to nuclear technology permitted under international frameworks. He reiterated Iran’s long-standing position that its nuclear program is peaceful and meant for civilian purposes.

Pezeshkian’s remarks appear to be a direct response to recent US pressure aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Iran believes that Western demands effectively seek to dismantle its scientific and energy infrastructure, while Washington maintains that strict limits are necessary to prevent nuclear weapons development. Tehran denies such allegations outright.

Pezeshkian also emphasized that Iran is seeking to defend its sovereignty while avoiding escalation. He insisted that Tehran does not want to be portrayed as a war-seeking state.

The dispute over Iran’s nuclear program dates back more than two decades and intensified after the United States withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement during Trump’s earlier presidency.

Since then, negotiations to revive or replace the deal have repeatedly faltered. Western governments accuse Iran of advancing uranium enrichment beyond agreed limits, while Iran insists enrichment is its sovereign right under international law for energy production, medical research, and technological development.

Representatives of both countries are now highly likely to meet in Islamabad as local agencies ramped up efforts to increase security, suspend public transport and close areas of business since yesterday.

Foreign delegations have already started arriving at the Nur Khan Airbase in Chaklala, Rawalpindi.
