A blockade on GT Road in the Gujranwala and Gujrat regions halted public and goods transport heading toward the federal capital on Monday, following VVIP movement in Islamabad.
The restriction did not apply to private cars and jeeps, which continued to travel. Across the national highway, hundreds of goods vehicles, including container carriers, were left parked along the roadside.
Authorities had already suspended bus, coaster, and van services from Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Sialkot, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, and Jhelum districts starting Sunday night.
Transport operators kept most vehicles at general bus stands and other stations during the suspension. Some buses and vans traveling from Lahore to Islamabad and Rawalpindi offloaded passengers in Gujranwala on Sunday night.
Passengers then arranged onward travel by hiring cars and rickshaws on shared fares to reach nearby destinations. Teams from the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), Punjab Traffic Police (PTP), and local administration set up barricades at multiple points along GT Road, spaced 10 to 20 kilometers apart.
