Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Committee for Monitoring and Implementation of Fuel Conservation and Additional Austerity Measures to review the implementation of existing cost-saving measures and requests for exemptions submitted by various government departments.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed cases submitted by different ministries and divisions seeking exemptions from certain austerity measures and finalized its recommendations on the requests.
The committee also decided that consular attestation services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its liaison offices in Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar, Gujrat, and Lahore will remain operational on Fridays to facilitate the public.
In addition, the committee recommended extending the implementation period of additional austerity measures that were set to expire on June 13, 2026, until June 30, 2026.
The committee further approved extending the closing time of standalone grocery and kiryana stores to 10:00pm on all days of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays.
The meeting was attended by the ministers for petroleum, climate change, and information technology and telecommunications, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Finance, the Special Assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister (SADPM), secretaries of the Cabinet, Commerce, Petroleum, and Information Technology and Telecommunications divisions, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant ministries and divisions.
