Students at Government College University (GCU) Lahore have raised concerns over a steep increase in summer/repeat semester fees.
According to students, the per-subject charge has jumped from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 15,000 without proper prior notice.
This sudden revision has created serious financial pressure, especially for those who need to repeat more than one subject.
The new fee hike could prove costly for students repeating two or three courses as the cost would be between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 45,000 or more, making it difficult for many to continue their studies.
The reported increase has triggered frustration among students, who argue that such a major fee revision should not be implemented without advance communication and a clear explanation from the university administration.
They say the lack of notice has left many students and families struggling to adjust, particularly at a time when economic conditions remain difficult.
Students have urged the university administration and relevant authorities to review the decision and provide relief, warning that higher repeat semester costs could place further strain on those already facing academic and financial challenges.
They say education should not become inaccessible because of sudden fee hikes and have called on the university to respond to student concerns before the issue worsens.
