The open-world racing game entered early access on May 15 for Premium Edition owners and launched fully on May 19 for standard edition buyers and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users. Forza Horizon 6 has also posted major numbers on Steam. The game crossed more than 270,000 concurrent Steam players at launch, according to Windows Central. SteamDB later showed a new all-time peak of 284,139 concurrent players on May 21.

The launch performance is well ahead of previous Forza Horizon games on Steam. Windows Central reported that Forza Horizon 5 peaked at around 80,000 concurrent players, while Forza Horizon 4 peaked at around 75,000.

Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma said Forza Horizon 6 delivered the biggest early access launch in franchise history.

During early access, the game reached more than 170,000 concurrent players on Steam. Traxion reported that the Premium Edition later peaked at 181,775 players, before the standard launch pushed the count to 273,148 and then 284,139.

The game is also listed as the global top-selling title on Steam, according to SteamDB data cited by Traxion.

Forza Horizon 6 has also received strong reviews from critics.

The game currently holds a Metascore of 91 on Metacritic, with 97% of listed critic reviews marked positive.

Windows Central’s Michael Hoglund gave the game a 4.5 out of 5 score, describing it as the most polished entry in the series so far. The game has also been described as one of the highest-rated releases of 2026.

Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan, a location fans had requested for years.

The game lets players explore an open-world version of Japan with a wide range of cars. The setting has helped drive interest across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Game Pass, and Steam.

Forza Horizon 6 is available on Xbox and PC with a $69.99 standard price.

Players can also access the game through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass with an active subscription. The game is available in Standard, Deluxe, and Premium editions, with the Premium Edition offering early access before the full launch.
