The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has set aside a notification issued by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) that delisted certain foreign medical graduates, restoring the status of degrees obtained from universities in Afghanistan and other institutions.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Faheem Wali heard the case. The petitioners were represented by Advocate Fawadur Rehman.
During proceedings, the petitioners’ counsel argued that the students had completed their medical education at a time when the Afghan universities were affiliated with PMDC and their degrees were recognized.
He said a notification issued on September 8, 2025 later removed these institutions from the approved list, which barred graduates from appearing in the National Registration Examination (NRE).
The NRE is required for obtaining provisional registration (PRMP) to practice medicine in Pakistan.
