England Test captain Ben Stokes has drawn attention for a noticeable change in his appearance following recent facial surgery, after featuring in a new media video ahead of the international summer on home soil.
The video, posted on Toyota UK’s official Instagram account in collaboration with England Cricket, showed Ben Stokes looking considerably slimmer, an appearance that had not been seen previously. The clip was released to showcase England’s new Castore kits across all three formats.
While the video included several England players such as Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, and Ben Duckett, it was Stokes’ altered look that quickly became the main talking point among fans on social media.
Earlier this year, Stokes underwent facial surgery after being struck in the face by a cricket ball during a net session. Reflecting on the incident, the 34-year-old said he was fortunate to avoid a more serious outcome.
“It was a pretty scary situation. I copped one straight in the face. Just a couple of inches one way or the other, I might not be here doing this interview if I didn’t turn my head round. It was a bit of a mess under here [the cheekbone]. I’ve got out quite lucky. Thankfully, still here and everything’s all right,” Stokes said, as quoted by BBC Sport.
Looking ahead, the upcoming international summer is set to be a significant period for Stokes and England. The team will begin with a three-match Test series against New Zealand in June, following a disappointing Ashes campaign in which England suffered a 4-1 defeat in Australia.
Despite that setback, Stokes continues to have the backing of the team management and remains in his role as Test captain.
During the Ashes series, the left-handed all-rounder scored 184 runs and took 15 wickets. England will face New Zealand before hosting Pakistan in another three-match Test series scheduled for August.
