The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has asked the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block websites and online platforms involved in the sale of unauthorized and unregistered therapeutic goods.
The request targets several websites and social media pages that promote unapproved medicines, particularly products related to sexual health, weight loss, and mental disorders. DRAP said the move is necessary to protect public health as concerns grow over the increasing online availability of such products.
According to the authority, some of these medicines are suspected to be smuggled from neighboring countries, including India and Iran. These drugs are often marketed without prescriptions, in violation of the Drugs Act, 1976. DRAP warned that the sale of unregistered and smuggled medicines poses a serious risk, as these products are not regulated or approved by the government.

The authority has also called for the removal of related advertisements on social media, warning companies of legal consequences if they fail to comply.
The regulator highlighted the potential dangers of these products, stating that unapproved medicines can cause harmful side effects, long-term health complications, and in some cases, fatal outcomes. It added that the aggressive online promotion of such drugs increases the risk of misuse among consumers.
DRAP has announced strict enforcement measures, including heavy fines, seizure of illegal products, and legal action against those involved. It has also urged the public to avoid purchasing medicines from unverified online sources and to report suspicious activities.
The authority further stated that all drug advertisements, especially those related to health treatments, must be pre-approved to prevent the spread of misleading or harmful information.
