Construction work has started on three new underpasses along Peshawar Road at an estimated cost of Rs. 8.359 billion following the completion of the Kutchery Chowk infrastructure project in Rawalpindi.

According to officials, the new underpasses will be built at Qasim Market Chowk, Qabristan Chowk, and Charing Cross Chowk. Sources said the Qasim Market underpass is estimated to cost Rs. 3.091 billion, while the Qabristan Chowk and Charing Cross Chowk underpasses are expected to cost Rs. 2.679 billion and Rs. 2.588 billion respectively.

Authorities said more than 80 percent of utility relocation work has already been completed, while temporary alternative routes are also being constructed. The three underpasses are expected to be completed within around three months.

The development comes after the completion of the Kutchery Chowk project, now renamed Marka-e-Haq Square, which was completed at a revised cost of nearly Rs. 19 billion compared to the original estimate of Rs. 13.334 billion.

Sources also said a proposal is under consideration to construct a flyover at Ammar Shaheed Chowk at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.45 billion.
