The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued a “final warning” over guest houses in residential areas, ordering such facilities to shut down or face legal action, according to a signboard displayed outside Serena Hotel.
The notice says all guest houses in Islamabad zones and sectors must be removed within seven days, and warns that public bookings are “not to engage” with such premises. It also says non-compliance may lead to sealing of the premises, cancellation of allotment, and criminal proceedings.
The signboard, attributed to CDA’s Building and Housing Control Wing, also announces a “ban on guest houses in residential areas”. The message is signed by the Director General, Building & Housing Control Wing, CDA.
The move comes amid criticism over Islamabad’s accommodation shortage, after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reportedly said the capital does not have enough space to host guests during major international events and urged investors to build hotels, as highlighted in the related X post.
The contrast has drawn attention because CDA is now moving against existing guest houses while the government is calling for more lodging capacity.
