Canada has increased estimated processing times for several temporary residence applications from Pakistan, including study permits, work permits, visitor visas and super visas.
The latest Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) figures are current as of July 28, 2026. For Pakistani applicants, study and work permit estimates both increased by one week compared with July 22, while visitor visa and super visa waits also rose.
The estimated processing time for a work permit application from Pakistan increased from 10 weeks to 11 weeks.
Nigeria also recorded a one-week increase, while processing improved for applications from within Canada and the Philippines.
IRCC’s service standard is 120 days for work permit applications submitted from within Canada and 60 days for applications from outside Canada.
Study permit processing from Pakistan also increased by one week, reaching 7 weeks after remaining at six weeks on July 22.
Nigeria’s estimate rose from five to six weeks, while the other countries listed remained unchanged.
IRCC’s service standard for new study permits submitted outside Canada is 60 days, while applications submitted within Canada have a 120-day standard.
Pakistani visitor visa applicants also saw their estimated wait rise from 40 days to 43 days.
Processing improved for applications from within Canada and the United States, while India, Nigeria and the Philippines saw small increases.
The service standard for visitor visa applications submitted outside Canada is 14 days. IRCC does not list a service standard for in-Canada visitor visa applications.
The estimated processing time for a super visa application from Pakistan increased from 194 days to 196 days.
Wait times also rose for applicants from India, Nigeria and the Philippines, while the estimate for the United States remained unchanged.
Super visa applications are submitted from outside Canada. IRCC’s service standard for these applications is 112 days.
IRCC says published processing times are estimates rather than deadlines or guarantees. A particular application may take longer or shorter depending on factors including completeness, biometrics, verification requirements, application volumes and case complexity.
IRCC uses both historical and forward-looking processing estimates. Service standards are different: they are performance targets showing how quickly the department aims to process most applications under normal conditions.
Temporary residence processing estimates are updated regularly, while the service standards themselves are reviewed much less frequently.
IRCC had finalized more than 1.2 million temporary residence applications during the first five months of 2026, while more than 404,000 applications remained pending as of May 31, according to figures cited in the latest processing-time report.
The next temporary residence processing-time update is expected around August 5.
