A BYD Tang SUV has gone viral online after reportedly surviving a serious crash involving a 10-ton dump truck in China, with the driver escaping without major injuries.
According to details circulating online, the SUV was hit by a speeding dump truck that allegedly ran a red light and slammed into the vehicle before dragging it for more than 50 meters. Photos of the wreckage showed extensive damage, with the doors crushed and the frame badly bent.
Despite the severity of the collision, reports said the driver walked away with only minor leg injuries.
The incident has sparked widespread praise for the vehicle’s structural strength, with many pointing to the fact that the cabin remained largely intact even after the heavy impact. All airbags were also reported to have deployed on time, helping protect the occupant during the crash.
The vehicle involved was a BYD Tang, a midsize seven-seater SUV that has built a reputation for strong safety and performance credentials. The model is often referred to by some users in China as a “road tank” because of its heavy-duty build and solid crash protection.
Much of the praise following the crash has focused on the Tang’s body structure, which is said to use 63 percent ultra-high-strength steel. The model is also known for performing well in strict crash safety evaluations in China, where vehicle safety standards have become increasingly demanding.
The BYD Tang is offered in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions. It combines family-SUV practicality with performance-oriented hardware, including all-wheel drive in higher variants and power output of up to 510 horsepower.
The flagship EV models can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 3.9 seconds, while the electric version is claimed to offer a range of up to 950 kilometers. Plug-in hybrid variants offer around 110 kilometers of pure electric driving and a total range that can exceed 1,000 kilometers with engine support.
The SUV also features BYD’s Blade Battery, fast charging capability, Brembo brakes, and a premium seven-seat cabin, making it one of the more competitive Chinese SUVs in both local and international markets.
