Punjab is set to celebrate Basant 2027 in January, with the festival expected to be held before the start of Ramadan.
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday, February 7, with the first day of fasting likely to fall on Monday, February 8. As a result, Basant festivities will be scheduled in January to avoid a clash with the holy month.
The decision marks a change from earlier plans. The Punjab government had previously indicated that Basant 2027 would be held in February, following the schedule used for the Basant Festival 2026.
However, with Ramadan expected to begin in early February, authorities have decided to move the festival to the end of January.
Basant was revived in Lahore in 2026 after a long gap, with the Punjab government allowing celebrations under a regulated framework. The festival attracted large crowds and revived interest in Lahore’s traditional kite-flying culture.
The final dates and other arrangements for Basant 2027 are expected to be announced by the Punjab government closer to the event.
