Mushfiqur Rahim produced a record-breaking innings of 137 as Bangladesh set Pakistan a formidable 437-run target in the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The experienced batter scored his 14th Test century, becoming Bangladesh’s leading century-maker in Test cricket. He reached the milestone off 178 balls with nine fours and a six, moving past teammate Mominul Haque, who had been level with him on 13 Test hundreds.
Mushfiqur now leads Bangladesh’s all-time Test century list, ahead of Mominul Haque, Tamim Iqbal, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das.
Bangladesh was eventually bowled out for 390 in 102.2 overs in their second innings after building on their first-innings lead. Mushfiqur’s 137 came from 233 deliveries and included 12 fours and a six before he was dismissed by Sajid Khan.
Litton Das supported him with 69 off 92 balls, hitting five fours, while Mahmudul Hasan Joy made 52 off 64 balls with 10 boundaries. Mominul Haque added 30, Taijul Islam scored 22, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shoriful Islam also made useful lower-order contributions.
For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad was the leading bowler with 4 for 86 in 20 overs. Sajid Khan took three wickets, Hasan Ali claimed two, and Mohammad Abbas picked up one.
In response, Pakistan made a steady start to the chase but later lost both openers. By lunch on day four, Pakistan had reached 101-2 and still required 336 runs, with Shan Masood and Babar Azam trying to stabilize the innings.
