A survivor of Friday’s deadly bus crash in Balochistan has claimed the driver deliberately drove the passenger coach into a ravine after an argument with passengers, although authorities say the allegation remains under investigation.

The passenger bus, which was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, plunged more than 70 feet into a gorge in the mountainous Dhana Sar area of Sherani district, killing at least 40 people and injuring eight others.

Speaking from Zhob Trauma Centre, survivor Hussain Ahmad alleged the driver became enraged after security personnel at a checkpoint confiscated extra Iranian diesel being transported on the bus.

According to the survivor, the driver blamed passengers for the incident and tensions continued throughout the journey. Hussain Ahmad claimed the driver intentionally turned the steering wheel, causing the bus to veer off the road and plunge into the ravine.

Zhob: According to an eyewitness, the bus accident in Dana Sar occurred when the driver got into a heated argument with a passenger. In rage, he suddenly turned the steering wheel, causing the bus to plunge into a deep ditch.

He said the driver acted in anger following the argument. Authorities, however, stressed that the survivor’s account has not been verified and said investigators are examining all possible causes of the crash.

Officials also revealed that the bus had initially left Quetta with 36 passengers, but additional passengers from another bus that broke down along the route were transferred to the same vehicle, increasing the number of people on board.
