Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has praised Pakistan women’s team captain Fatima Sana for her impressive performances, calling her a future star of international cricket after the pair played together for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred 2026.
Perry said Fatima had been outstanding and described the opportunity to play alongside cricketers from different countries as one of the best parts of competitions like The Hundred.
“Yeah, she’s probably changed her stance on what she thinks of me since she’s played with me,” Perry joked while speaking to a reporter.
Perry has faced Fatima several times in international cricket but said playing alongside her gave her the chance to see the Pakistan captain’s all-round abilities from a different perspective.
She said it was “super cool” to watch Fatima express her all-round game, adding that the 25-year-old batted very well and was also highly effective with the new ball.
Perry also backed Fatima to have a long international career, noting that she already carries significant responsibility at a young age.
“She’s got so much responsibility on her shoulders,” Perry said, adding that Fatima has a long career ahead of her and can become a very good player in international cricket.
Fatima has long regarded Perry as her childhood hero. When she first met the Australian star in 2023, she was reportedly too nervous to approach her. This year, however, Fatima became the first Pakistani woman cricketer to be selected for The Hundred and joined Perry at Birmingham Phoenix.
The two eventually shared the crease during Birmingham Phoenix’s final league match of the season against MI London at Edgbaston.
Perry scored an unbeaten half-century, while her fifth-wicket partnership with Fatima played an important role in helping Birmingham Phoenix secure the victory.
