Karachi has reported another confirmed case of monkeypox (mpox), bringing the city’s total number of infections to 11, according to health authorities.

Hospital officials said a 35-year-old resident of Mohabbat Nagar in Landhi tested positive for the virus and is currently receiving treatment in the isolation ward of Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital (SIDH) NIPA.

The patient visited the hospital on Saturday after developing symptoms associated with mpox. Medical staff conducted tests, and a PCR test later confirmed the infection. Officials said the patient has no recent travel history.

With the latest case, the number of mpox patients reported at SIDH NIPA has increased to eight.

The development follows the recent confirmation of another mpox case involving a 40-year-old resident of Gulistan-e-Johar. Health officials said that patient also had no recent travel history and was admitted to the hospital’s isolation ward after testing positive through a PCR test.

Health authorities are closely monitoring both patients and have urged residents to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms of the virus.

Mpox is a viral disease that spreads through close contact with an infected person, contaminated materials, or infected animals. Common symptoms include fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a skin rash. The disease gained global attention during the 2022-23 outbreak and remains under surveillance by health authorities worldwide.
