Lahore Traffic Police has released an artificial intelligence (AI)-based helmet compliance survey report, showing that helmet use on the city’s model roads has reached 97.11%.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, the survey was carried out through Safe City’s advanced cameras at 17 major intersections on model roads.
During the selected survey hours, a total of 264,112 motorcycles passed through these points, of which 256,473 riders were wearing helmets, while 7,639 were found riding without helmets.
The highest compliance was recorded at IG Chowk Cantt, where 99.65% of motorcyclists were found wearing helmets. It was followed by International Hotel Chowk at 99.54%, Pul Nehar Mall Road at 99.24%, Medical Chowk at 99.17%, Davis Road at 98.83%, Faisal Chowk Assembly Hall at 98.81%, and Doctors Hospital Chowk at 98.63%.
The report further showed 97.53% compliance at Canal View, 97.23% at Avari Hotel Chowk, 95.65% at Governor House Chowk, 93.42% at High Court Chowk, 92.88% at Askari 10, 92.22% at Main Boulevard, 90.78% at Canal Ferozepur Road, 90.60% at Jail Road Canal Bridge, 88.55% at Jail Road Race Course, and 83.96% at FC College Underpass.
CTO Lahore said helmet use has reduced serious head injury cases by up to 40%. He added that Lahore has 8.2 million registered vehicles, including more than 6.1 million motorcycles, making helmet enforcement one of the top priorities of the traffic police.
