The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has intensified its crackdown against the adulteration mafia in different areas of Lahore, sealing eight food units, imposing fines worth Rs. 700,000 on five outlets and discarding large quantities of rotten and expired food items over violations of food safety laws.

The enforcement teams carried out operations in Iqbal Town, Inner Lahore, Multan Road and adjoining areas on the directions of Director General Syed Musa Raza. During the campaign, 11 food units were inspected, out of which eight were sealed for serious hygiene and safety violations.

According to the PFA spokesperson, food safety teams discarded 200 kilograms of rotten tomatoes, more than 80 kilograms of insect-infested pulp and over 40 kilograms of expired and unusable food items during the inspections.

Director General Syed Musa Raza said that rotten tomatoes were found stored alongside fresh stock at a ketchup and sauces production unit, posing serious risks to public health. He said action was taken against the units for repeatedly failing to comply with previously issued instructions and standard operating procedures.

He said the inspection teams observed poor hygiene conditions, heavy insect infestation and foul-smelling kitchen environments at multiple food points. Dairy products and meat were also being stored together in dirty and fungus-infected freezers, violating food preservation regulations.

The DG PFA further said that mandatory records, including oil change logs, medical certificates and training documents of food handlers, were not available at the inspected premises. He added that expiry and production dates were missing from several raw and prepared food items.

Syed Musa Raza reiterated that the Punjab Food Authority was committed to ensuring the provision of quality food and eliminating adulteration from the province. He warned that strict action would continue against businesses endangering public health and said that compliance with Punjab Food Authority laws was mandatory for all food operators.
