A fire broke out in the gynecology ward of Lahore General Hospital (LGH), prompting the evacuation of around 70 people, including pregnant women, from the affected building.
According to reports, the fire was brought under control shortly after it started. However, thick smoke spread through the gynecology ward, triggering panic among patients, attendants and hospital staff.
Sources said the fire was caused by a short circuit in electrical wiring installed in the ceiling of the hospital building. The blaze and resulting smoke affected the ward while patients and their attendants were present inside.
Around 70 people, including pregnant women, were evacuated from the building as a precautionary measure. The timely evacuation helped move patients and other occupants away from the affected area.
No major injuries were reported. However, a security guard reportedly suffered breathing difficulties after inhaling smoke during the incident.
The guard was taken to the hospital’s emergency department for treatment. Hospital authorities later said his condition was out of danger.
The incident comes less than a week after a deadly hospital fire in Islamabad. On August 26, 2026, 14 newborns were killed when a fire broke out in a nursery at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
The PIMS fire erupted on the third floor of the hospital’s Mother and Child Health ward, raising concerns over fire safety arrangements and emergency response at major public hospitals.
