The district administrations of Bajaur, Upper and Lower South Waziristan, and Bannu have imposed a 30-day ban on the sale, purchase, storage, and transportation of fertilizer due to security concerns.
The restrictions were introduced under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure amid fears that fertilizer could be diverted for use in improvised explosive devices and other unlawful activities.
In Bajaur, Deputy Commissioner Adnan Farid issued the order on the directives of the Home and Tribal Affairs Department. The notification said the measure was necessary to protect public safety and maintain law and order.
It stated that unrestricted possession, trade, and movement of fertilizer could create a serious security risk. The district administration also banned the sale, purchase, and transportation of all types of explosives with immediate effect.
Anyone violating the order may face prosecution under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860, along with action under other applicable laws.
Separate notifications were also issued by the deputy commissioners of Upper and Lower South Waziristan, banning the sale, purchase, storage, and transportation of urea fertilizer.
The restrictions in the two districts came into effect on July 27 and will remain in place until August 25, 2026, unless extended, amended, or withdrawn earlier.
The Bannu district administration has also imposed a one-month ban on the sale, purchase, and transportation of urea fertilizer.
Fertilizer dealers in the district have been directed to maintain proper records and comply with the restrictions. Authorities warned that dealers and individuals found violating the order would face legal action under the Pakistan Penal Code and other relevant laws.
Officials said the orders may be extended, amended, or withdrawn depending on the security situation.
