Google is introducing a new AI-powered feature that will let users customize their Discover feed simply by describing what they want to see.
The feature will begin rolling out in the Google app in the coming days. Google says Discover will adjust recommendations based on users’ instructions and remember those preferences for future visits.
Users will find the new option by tapping the three-dot menu on content in their Discover feed.
From there, Google will open a chatbot-style interface where users can describe the topics or links they want to see more or less often.
For example, users could ask for more content about a specific interest while excluding certain related topics.
The AI will interpret the request and adjust the Discover feed accordingly. Users will also be able to provide additional instructions if the initial preferences are not quite right.
They can then refresh the feed to see the updated recommendations. Google says Discover will remember these requests instead of treating them as one-time changes.
Discover currently recommends articles and other content based largely on a user’s activity across Google Search, apps, and their interactions with the feed.
Similar AI-powered feed customization tools have also appeared on platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Bluesky, and X.
Google is also adding more personalization to daily audio briefings in the Google News app on Android.
Users can choose specific topics they want included in their briefings. Google will provide clear source attribution and links to the full articles behind the audio summaries.
Google is also expanding its Preferred Sources feature, which allows users to prioritize their favorite publishers across Google.
Publishers can now add an interactive Preferred Sources button directly to their websites. Readers can use the button to add a publication to their preferred list without permanently leaving the publisher’s page.
Content from selected publishers can then appear more prominently across Google’s Top Stories, AI Overviews, and AI Mode.
Together, the changes give users more direct control over the topics and publishers that Google recommends across Discover, Search, and Google News.
