Xiaomi has officially confirmed a new automotive sub-brand called Sky Nomad, marking the next phase of its expansion in the electric vehicle market. The company announced the new division on July 8, 2026.

Unlike Xiaomi’s existing lineup of performance-focused electric cars, the new brand will concentrate on spacious, comfortable vehicles designed for families and long-distance travel.

In China, the business has been registered under the name Xiaomi Pengcheng. Xiaomi has already started promoting the brand through large advertising displays across major Chinese cities and has launched a dedicated page on the WeChat platform.

Sky Nomad will focus on extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) instead of fully electric models. These vehicles combine an electric drivetrain with a gasoline-powered generator that produces electricity when the battery runs low. This approach is designed to reduce range anxiety while still providing the quiet driving experience of an electric vehicle, especially during long journeys where charging stations may not be easily available.

The first model under the new brand will be the N90, a full-size SUV measuring 5.3 meters in length with a 3.1-meter wheelbase. It will be available in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations, giving buyers the choice between additional passenger capacity or extra interior space and comfort.

Powering the N90 is a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that works solely as a generator. It does not drive the wheels directly. Instead, it generates electricity for the electric motors and recharges the battery pack.

The SUV is expected to feature a battery larger than 70 kWh, providing up to 500 km of electric driving before the gasoline generator begins supplying power. With a fully charged battery and a full fuel tank, the combined driving range is expected to exceed 1,500 km, making the vehicle suitable for long-distance travel and regions with limited charging infrastructure.

The N90 adopts a rugged yet premium design. It features block-style headlights, a trapezoidal front air intake, additional air vents for improved aerodynamics, and a high hood. Electrically powered side steps assist passengers when entering or exiting the vehicle, while a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor supports advanced driver assistance and automated driving functions.

Xiaomi’s latest announcement comes as the company continues to expand its automotive business following its successful entry into the market in 2024. In May 2026 alone, Xiaomi delivered 32,759 vehicles in China, reflecting continued strong demand for its electric vehicles.

The company first entered the automotive industry with the SU7 electric sedan before expanding its lineup with the high-performance SU7 Ultra and the YU7 crossover, including the sporty YU7 GT variant.

Xiaomi is expected to announce the N90’s pricing and additional specifications closer to its official launch. With its emphasis on spacious interiors, smart technology, and extended-range powertrains, Sky Nomad represents a new direction for Xiaomi’s growing automotive business.
