A Karachi woman has filed a civil suit at the City Court seeking more than Rs130 million in compensation from a water tanker owner and its driver following the tragic death of her husband.
Talha Zaheer, the woman’s husband and sole breadwinner for the family, was fatally run over by a water tanker in March 2026. The petition argues that his untimely death has plunged his legal heirs into severe financial distress and long-term hardship.
The lawsuit holds both the tanker owner and the driver legally liable for the accident and demands compensation for the family’s loss.
The case comes amid rising public anger over frequent accidents involving heavy water tankers in Karachi. Recently, a similar incident on Karimabad Bridge led to a mob assaulting a driver and vandalising his vehicle after a motorcyclist was injured.
In response to the growing crisis, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced a new barcode-based identification and tracking system for all registered water tankers.
The city administration hopes this initiative will improve transparency, track tanker movements, and help dismantle the illegal water tanker mafia responsible for numerous safety violations across the city.
