The Pakistan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has foiled two major smuggling attempts in South Punjab, seizing illegal goods worth more than Rs. 204.9 million during intelligence-based operations.
According to officials, the first operation was carried out at Sarwar Shaheed Chowk in Muzaffargarh, where customs authorities intercepted a Bedford truck travelling toward Hyderabad. A
lthough the vehicle appeared to be carrying empty cartons, a detailed inspection revealed approximately 2,700 kilograms of smuggled acetate tow cleverly concealed inside the load.
Authorities estimated the value of the seized material at around Rs. 175.5 million.
In a separate operation at the Sher Shah Motorway Rest Area, customs officials examined a Hino refrigerated container and uncovered foreign-origin goods hidden alongside empty fruit baskets. The seizure included cigarettes worth Rs. 16.8 million and 12,625 kilograms of poppy seeds valued at Rs. 12.6 million.
All confiscated goods and vehicles have been taken into official custody, while legal proceedings against those involved are underway.
Officials stated that Pakistan Customs under the Federal Board of Revenue will continue expanding intelligence-driven operations to curb smuggling activities, protect the national economy, and promote fair trade practices across the country.
