The Sindh government will launch its electric vehicle (EV) taxi service in September as part of its plan to modernize public transport across the province.
The decision came during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, where officials reviewed the progress of several transport projects.
Sharjeel Memon said the government will introduce the EV taxi service next month to provide residents with a modern, safe, and environmentally friendly transport option. During the meeting, officials also informed the minister that the government will induct 1,000 electric buses into the public transport network in phases beginning later this year.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Red Line BRT project. Sharjeel Memon directed officials to complete the construction of all Red Line BRT depots within the approved timeline.
He said the Sindh government remains committed to expanding sustainable public transport and improving commuting facilities across the province.
