Samsung may be exploring a rollable display smartphone, according to a newly discovered patent filing.
The patent, spotted by WearView , describes a phone with a rollable screen and a movable rear camera module that shifts along with the expanding display.
Based on sketches in the patent filing and renders created by WearView, the phone appears to include a cutout on the rear panel for the camera module.
The camera module would move as the display expands, allowing the device to change shape while keeping the rear camera system aligned with the design.
When the display is tucked into the main body, the device looks similar to a regular smartphone, such as the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
However, when the screen is fully extended, the device takes on a larger form factor closer to the Galaxy Z Fold7.
The patent also mentions sensors that could detect changes in display size.
These sensors could also track changes in camera and antenna positions, along with other hardware adjustments caused by the moving screen.
Samsung previously showed a rollable OLED display prototype in 2023. The company also filed a patent in 2021 for a device with a display that could both roll and fold.
As with most patents, there is no guarantee that this rollable phone design will reach the market. However, the filing shows that Samsung is still exploring rollable smartphones, similar to concepts such as the Moto Rizr and Tecno Phantom Ultimate.
