Samsung has launched the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch 9, two years after introducing the original Galaxy Watch Ultra.
This year, Samsung is not launching a new Classic model. Instead, the company has upgraded the Ultra and standard Watch lineups with Snapdragon Wear Elite chips, brighter displays, and larger batteries.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 brings the biggest battery Samsung has used in a Galaxy Watch so far.
It packs an 800mAh battery, up from the 590mAh battery in the original Galaxy Watch Ultra. That is a 35 percent increase in capacity.
Despite the larger battery, the Watch Ultra2 is 12 percent slimmer than its predecessor. It measures 10.7mm thick, compared with 12.1mm on the original model.
The watch body weighs 61.5 grams, which is technically unchanged. However, Samsung has introduced lighter and softer watch bands, so the overall weight with the strap is slightly lower.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 has a 47mm shock-resistant titanium casing. It keeps the squircle body design with a circular 1.52-inch OLED display. The screen has a 498 x 498 resolution and can reach up to 5,000 nits of brightness. Samsung says this is the brightest display ever used on a Galaxy Watch.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 gets different bands. The Marine Band is a light silicone band designed for outdoor use. The PeakForm Band uses a hybrid material, while the Trail Band focuses on breathability and long-wear comfort.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is available in Titanium Silver and Titanium Gray.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset.
The chip is built on a 3nm process and uses a 5-core CPU. It supports dual-frequency GPS, LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, and NFC.
The watch comes with 2GB RAM and 64GB storage. It runs One UI 9 Watch out of the box.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is rated IP69K for resistance against hot water jets.
It also has 10 ATM water resistance and EN13319 certification, making it suitable for diving. When the watch enters water, it can automatically track depth, time, and water temperature.
Samsung is also working with scuba equipment maker Mares on a Diving app, which is expected later this year. The app will add advanced diving features, including ascent and descent speed tracking and safe dive limits.
For trail running, the Watch Ultra2 can track climb elevation, climbing progress, and terrain impact. Samsung has also improved its Sweat Loss feature, which now provides real-time hydration guidance by estimating sweat loss and suggesting when and how much to drink.
The Galaxy Watch 9 comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes.
The 40mm model measures 42.7 x 40.4mm, while the 44mm model measures 46.0 x 43.7mm. Both have aluminum cases that are 8.6mm thick.
The 40mm version weighs 31.5 grams, while the 44mm version weighs 43 grams.
Both Galaxy Watch 9 models use circular OLED displays with up to 3,000 nits peak brightness.
The 40mm model has a 1.34-inch display with a 438 x 438 resolution. The 44mm model has a 1.47-inch display with a 480 x 480 resolution. Like the Ultra 2, both displays are protected by sapphire crystal.
Samsung has introduced three band styles for the Galaxy Watch 9. The Sports Band is thinner and softer than previous bands. The Misty Band uses soft silicone and is designed for a secure fit. The Fabric Band is lightweight and breathable. The 40mm Galaxy Watch 9 is available in Cream and Graphite. The 44mm model comes in Graphite and Silver.
The 40mm Galaxy Watch 9 has a 390mAh battery, up from 325mAh on the Galaxy Watch 8. The 44mm model has a 445mAh battery, only slightly larger than the 435mAh battery in the previous 44mm model.

The Galaxy Watch 9 models use the same Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset as the Ultra2.
They also come with 2GB RAM and the same connectivity features, including LTE, Bluetooth 6.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, and dual-frequency GPS.
However, storage is lower at 32GB, compared with 64GB on the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.
The Galaxy Watch 9 is rated IP68 and 5 ATM for water resistance. This is enough for swimming, but Samsung does not position it as a dive-ready watch like the Ultra 2.
The Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are available for pre-order now.
Both models will go on sale on August 7. Samsung is also offering a 60-day free trial of Strava and a two-month free trial of iFIT with the new watches.
