The United Nanbai Association has announced another increase in roti and naan prices in Lahore, citing rising flour and operating costs. The district administration, however, has warned that it will take action against unauthorized price hikes.
The association said it will charge Rs. 25 for a simple roti and Rs. 35 for naan after the price of a 20 kilogram flour bag climbed to Rs. 2,400, while fine flour reached Rs. 12,000.
Association representatives said rising flour prices, expensive LPG and higher packaging costs have made it impossible to sell roti at the government notified price of Rs. 16. They urged the government to begin negotiations within three days and warned that they will shut down tandoors if authorities fail to address their concerns.
Earlier, the association increased the price of roti from Rs. 14 to Rs. 20 and fixed the price of naan at Rs. 30. Officials warned that they will take action against anyone charging above the officially notified rates and said they will ensure consumers continue to receive affordable roti.
Meanwhile, tandoors in several areas of Karachi have also increased the price of roti by Rs. 5, with vendors now charging Rs. 25 instead of Rs. 20.
