The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has taken over the main parking plaza at Fawara Chowk in Raja Bazaar after the expiry of a three-year lease agreement, ending the contractor’s control of the facility.
RDA officials, accompanied by police, assumed possession of the parking plaza on July 10 and immediately began operating it through the authority’s own staff. The lease had started on July 11, 2023, following a public auction.
RDA officials said the former contractor owes the authority more than Rs. 40 million, including accrued interest. Meanwhile, a civil case filed by the contractor against the RDA remains pending in court.
The authority said it will auction the parking plaza again in accordance with Punjab Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules and RDA regulations. Officials added that they will comply with any future orders issued by the competent court regarding the dispute.
