Lahore Police have suspended the entire Ghaziabad Police Station, including the Station House Officer (SHO), after a police constable was arrested for allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a mentally challenged woman in the provincial capital.
According to the first information report (FIR), the victim is a 19 to 20-year-old mentally challenged woman who had left her home on the night of August 2. The complainant alleged that the accused, a police constable dressed in civilian clothes, took her away from outside the street and later sexually assaulted her.
The FIR states that the victim was later found and brought back home, after which the family approached Ghaziabad Police Station to register the case.
Police have arrested the suspect and registered a case under relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, including rape charges, while departmental proceedings have also been initiated.
In response to the incident, DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran ordered the suspension of the entire Ghaziabad Police Station.
A total of 78 police officials, including the SHO, have been suspended as part of the disciplinary action to ensure a transparent investigation and determine whether there was negligence or failure in supervision by the station’s personnel.
According to the official suspension order, the officers have been relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the inquiry. The case has also been referred for departmental proceedings under the Police Order, 2002.
Lahore Police said the investigation is ongoing, adding that further legal and departmental action will be taken in light of the findings.
