A man seen in a viral video allegedly harassing women tourists in Naran has appeared in a fresh clip from Faisalabad, where he is shown apologizing and claiming his “software has been updated” after police action.
In the original video, widely shared on Facebook, Instagram and X, the man — described by social media users as a TikToker — can be seen filming women in Naran while making lewd or mocking remarks, referring to them as “pariyan” (fairies) in a way many viewers deemed objectifying and harassing.
The footage triggered strong backlash, with users accusing him of promoting a hostile environment for women and tarnishing the image of family tourism in scenic areas like Naran and Kaghan.
Following the online uproar, videos shared by regional pages and tour-related accounts claimed the man had been detained in Faisalabad after returning from Naran.
In a new clip, he appears flanked by men inside what appears to be a police setting, stating that his “software has been updated” and offering an apology for his behaviour, while warning others not to repeat such acts at tourist destinations.
While many users applauded the apparent swift response, celebrating the “software update” as a deterrent.
The episode has revived concern over women’s safety in popular northern destinations like Naran, Kaghan and surrounding valleys, just as domestic tourism picks up for the summer season.
Tour operators and local pages warn that repeated incidents of on-camera harassment risk undermining years of efforts to brand these valleys as safe, family-friendly destinations for both local and international visitors.
Civil society voices are urging provincial tourism departments and police to develop and publicize clear standard operating procedures for handling harassment complaints in tourist towns, including on-site reporting mechanisms and dedicated units at peak season.
