Punjab Police have booked four people after a video showing a young man running naked on a main road in Gojra in broad daylight went viral on social media.
According to police, the incident took place at Qainchi Chowk on Sargodha Road, where the youth allegedly ran nude for around 100 feet to win a Rs. 5,000 bet placed by three others.
The case was registered after the Mandi Bahauddin district police officer took notice of the viral video and ordered action against those involved.
An FIR lodged by Gojra police on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Ghulam Abbas Tahir said Samar Hayat, a resident of Shahpur Saddar, was allegedly challenged by Ehsan and two unidentified persons to run naked in exchange for the bet amount.
Police said Samar accepted the challenge and carried out the act in public, while the episode was recorded on a mobile phone by an unidentified person. The video was later shared online, drawing widespread attention.
The FIR states that the incident caused mental distress and hurt public sentiments.
Police have booked Samar, Ehsan and two unidentified suspects under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including provisions related to public obscenity, outraging public modesty, abetment and joint intent.
Sections related to betting and gambling under the Punjab Prevention of Gambling Ordinance 1978 have also been added to the case.
