The Punjab government has launched a special cyber patrolling operation ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram to prevent the spread of hate speech, provocative content, and material that could disturb public order during the religious observance.
Officials said cyber surveillance teams will monitor social media platforms around the clock to identify and take action against controversial, inflammatory, and offensive content targeting religious sentiments.
According to sources, the operation is being carried out jointly by the Punjab Safe City Authority, police, and other law enforcement agencies as part of comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram.
Authorities revealed that more than 5,000 social media pages, accounts, and websites involved in sharing objectionable and hate-related content have already been blocked under the ongoing campaign.
Officials warned that individuals found uploading or sharing content that promotes sectarian hatred, incites violence, or hurts religious sentiments will face legal action under relevant laws.
The government has also urged social media users to act responsibly and ensure that online content complies with legal and ethical standards while respecting religious sensitivities.
The cyber patrolling initiative forms part of broader efforts to maintain peace, harmony, and law and order across Punjab during Muharram-ul-Haram.
