The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a production unit of a well-known bakery in Lahore after uncovering multiple food safety violations during an inspection conducted as part of an ongoing audit of major food brands.
The operation was carried out by PFA enforcement teams under the supervision of the Additional Director Lahore. During the inspection, officials confiscated and destroyed 4,500 kilograms of khoya, 840 kilograms of cream, 50 liters of expired chemicals and more than one maund of raw materials deemed unfit for consumption.
According to the PFA, inspection teams recovered fungus-infested khoya from the facility and found that expiry dates on drums of desi ghee had allegedly been altered. Officials also reported the use of substandard raw materials in the production of bakery items.
Director General Punjab Food Authority Syed Musa Raza said inspectors observed stagnant dirty water on damaged floors, poor sanitation conditions and unhygienic surroundings inside the production area. A large number of cockroaches were also found in the cheese cold storage section.
He said all food businesses, regardless of size, are required to obtain food licenses, ensure medical screening and training of food handlers, and comply with food safety regulations.
The PFA said it is continuing food safety audits across the province to ensure compliance with hygiene standards, product quality requirements and mandatory food safety procedures.
