The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed three food businesses and imposed fines totaling Rs. 250,000 on two others during a crackdown carried out in Shahdara, Park View, Railway Road, and nearby areas.
The operation targeted restaurants and food manufacturing units accused of violating food safety and hygiene regulations. During the inspections, enforcement teams confiscated and discarded more than 40 kilograms of substandard meat along with hazardous Chinese salt.
Among the businesses sealed were a well known breakfast restaurant, a popular Sajji outlet, and a Murabba manufacturing unit after officials found serious sanitary violations.
The PFA also fined another well known restaurant Rs. 200,000 for repeatedly failing to comply with improvement notices previously issued by the authority.
Punjab Food Authority Director General Syed Musa Raza said inspection teams discovered live frogs and insects inside food production areas. He added that the facilities were operating in extremely unhygienic conditions, with open drains, foul odors, and fungus contaminated freezers posing a potential risk to public health.
The PFA said enforcement operations will continue across Punjab to ensure food businesses comply with hygiene standards and provide safe food to consumers.
