The Punjab School Education Department has directed schools across the province to limit unnecessary outdoor activities as part of measures to protect students from the possible effects of smog.
The instructions have been issued under a pre-smog action plan till September 2026, requiring all schools to ensure precautionary measures are in place.
Schools have been told to check the Air Quality Index (AQI) before allowing students to take part in outdoor exercise or physical activities. During smog conditions, students should also be prevented from participating in outdoor sports.
The department has further advised schools in areas with unhealthy air quality to avoid unnecessary travel and visits.
Schools have also been instructed to keep doors and windows closed during smog to reduce students’ exposure to polluted air.
All school heads have been directed to ensure the required safety measures are implemented to protect students from the harmful effects of smog.
