The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public warning of a sharp rise in phishing scams targeting personal and financial data across the country.
According to the advisory, fraudsters are using fake emails, text messages, and websites to trick people into sharing sensitive information such as passwords, one-time passwords, and banking details.
PTA said phishing attacks are becoming more sophisticated, with scammers posing as trusted organizations and creating urgency to push victims into acting quickly without verifying the source.
The authority warned that falling for such scams can lead to financial losses and identity theft, as attackers gain access to private accounts and personal data.
Citizens have been advised to avoid clicking on suspicious links, especially those received through unknown or unsolicited messages, and to always verify the identity of the sender. PTA also stressed that personal and confidential information should never be shared with unknown sources under any circumstances.
The public has been encouraged to report suspicious messages and links to help authorities take action and limit the spread of cyber fraud. The authority clarified that it does not contact individuals to request personal or sensitive information through calls, emails, or messages, urging citizens to remain cautious and spread awareness.
