The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public notice urging internet users to exercise their constitutional right to freedom of expression responsibly while avoiding content that promotes interfaith, sectarian, or racial hatred, as well as propaganda against state institutions and the judiciary.
The regulator said users should think carefully before publishing content online, warning that hate speech and other harmful material can lead to serious legal and social consequences.
PTA also encouraged the public to report online hate speech through its official complaint portal to help facilitate the blocking of unlawful content.
In a separate public awareness message, PTA emphasized the importance of protecting users’ digital footprints.
According to the regulator, every online activity, including social media posts, shared content, and search history, becomes part of a person’s digital identity.
PTA warned that these digital footprints can have long-term implications for personal privacy and digital security.
The authority advised citizens to use social media responsibly, verify information before sharing it, and remain aware of the lasting impact of their online activities.
According to the public notice, informed and cautious use of digital platforms can help protect personal data while contributing to a safer digital environment.
PTA has directed users to its official website, complaint portal, social media platforms, and Digital Assistant for further guidance and assistance.
