The Sindh School Education Department has directed private schools across the province, including Karachi, to immediately refund fees collected from matric students for the months of April to July 2026.
The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh said several complaints had been received against private schools for charging Class 10 students fees for months during which they were appearing in examinations.
According to an official circular, some schools argued that additional fees were charged due to practical examinations. However, the directorate declared the practice illegal, stating that practical examination charges are already included in monthly tuition fees.
Authorities also rejected the stance of some schools that fees could be collected until July 2026 because the academic session began in August 2025. Officials said the practice violated decisions taken by the steering committee and was completely unlawful.
The directorate warned that strict legal action would be taken against schools failing to refund the fees, including fines, suspension or cancellation of registration, and referral of cases to education boards for further action. Inspection committees will also conduct visits to schools and submit reports against institutions found violating the orders.
