The All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association (APPSMA) has called for private schools in Rawalpindi Division to reopen, arguing that the continued closure has caused unnecessary disruption to students’ education.
The association has asked the commissioner of Rawalpindi Division and deputy commissioners to use their powers under Section 12-D of the Punjab Private Educational Institutions Act to allow private schools to resume classes.
APPSMA leaders noted that federal schools in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have already resumed academic activities, while schools operating under the Punjab government remain closed. They said the difference has created an unfair situation for students studying in the same cities.
The association also raised concerns about the number of holidays in Punjab schools. It said students already had only around 120 instructional days during the previous academic session and could face further learning losses if the current closure continues.
APPSMA argued that authorities should compensate for lost classroom time by adding teaching days rather than extending the holidays.
The association also questioned the province-wide approach to school closures, saying weather conditions in Rawalpindi differ considerably from those in southern Punjab. It urged authorities to consider local conditions when deciding whether schools should remain closed.
APPSMA further called for schools to reopen before August 14, saying educational institutions can play an important role in fostering patriotism and national unity among students.
