Prices of sacrificial animals have risen sharply at Lahore’s cattle markets ahead of Eid ul Adha, with traders citing higher transportation, feed, and livestock costs behind the increase.

Residents have started visiting cattle markets across the city to compare prices and inspect animals before making final purchases closer to Eid.

At Lahore’s official cattle markets, small goats are currently being sold between Rs. 90,000 and Rs. 120,000. Medium sized goats and sheep are being priced at around Rs. 150,000, while larger and healthier animals are being offered between Rs. 300,000 and Rs. 400,000 depending on their size and appearance.

Among cattle, bull prices currently start from around Rs. 250,000, while higher quality animals are being sold between Rs. 300,000 and Rs. 500,000. Livestock traders said commercial activity is expected to increase from next week as Eid preparations intensify and salaries are paid.

A trader from Muzaffargarh said many customers visiting the markets were surprised by this year’s rates, while actual buying activity is usually seen during the final days before Eid.
