A power outage at the Dhabeji Pumping Station on Tuesday disrupted operations of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), reducing the city’s daily water supply by nearly 100 million gallons.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, the power breakdown affected the K-2 Pump House, where a fault developed in the manifold chamber and main valves.
The spokesperson said technical teams have been deployed to drain the accumulated water from the affected valves before repair work begins. Engineers and maintenance staff are currently working at the site to restore operations as quickly as possible.
The fault forced the temporary shutdown of three major pumps at the K-2 Pumping Station, resulting in a significant reduction in Karachi’s water supply. Under normal conditions, the city receives around 650 million gallons of water per day (MGD).
The disruption is expected to affect water supply in North Nazimabad, Federal B. Area, Buffer Zone, Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 13-D, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, and parts of Scheme 33 until repair work is completed.
