The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has stopped accepting new maternity cases because the hospital is operating beyond its available capacity.
PIMS Executive Director Rana Imran Sikandar confirmed the decision. He said the hospital could not keep admitting patients beyond the number it could safely accommodate.
The fire incident has badly affected the hospital’s children’s nursery. According to Sikandar, 15 nursery beds were completely destroyed in a fire.
The nursery originally had 50 beds, leaving only 35 beds available after the damage.
PIMS said it will refer children and other patients to hospitals in Islamabad and Rawalpindi where necessary.
