The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday suspended a Pakistan Information Commission order directing the Pakistan Cricket Board to make public its annual budgets, audit reports, player remuneration, selection committee payments, and spending on the T20 World Cup 2026.
Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar issued notices to the respondents and fixed the matter for September 22, 2026. The court stayed the commission’s July 9 ruling until the next hearing.
The PCB argued through its petition that the order was issued without jurisdiction and went against the Right of Access to Information Act, 2017.
It said the commission had failed to distinguish between information that must be disclosed proactively and material protected under exemptions related to privacy, confidential contracts, commercially sensitive data and third-party interests.
The board maintained that it is funded mainly through commercial revenue, not government grants, and that the requested material included personal financial details of identifiable individuals.
Assistant Attorney General Asif Khan Jadoon also appeared before the court.
The court allowed the PCB’s exemption application subject to all just and legal exceptions.
