Pakistan’s food imports during the first 10 months of the current financial year increased by 13.81 percent compared with the corresponding period of last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
During July-April FY26, food commodities worth US$ 7.848 billion were imported, compared with US$ 6.898 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Imports of milk, cream, and infant food increased by 6.92 percent to US$121.625 million, compared with US$113.755 million in the corresponding period last year.
Imports of dry fruits and nuts rose by 10.94 percent to US$145.725 million, compared with US$131.360 million a year earlier.
Tea imports increased by 5.13 percent during the period under review, reaching US$554.889 million compared with US$527.800 million in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, palm oil imports increased by 15.41 percent to US$3.313 billion, compared with US$2.871 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Among the commodities that recorded a decline, soybean oil imports fell by 61.15 percent to US$108.683 million, compared with US$279.768 million in the same period last year. Wheat imports declined by 100 percent.
It is worth noting that food exports totaled US$ 4.190 billion during the first 10 months of FY26. However, food exports declined by 32.2 percent compared with US$6.164 billion recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
